Abu Dhabi was voted the most livable city in the world in 2012 by International Livable Communities. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the Middle East, expecting to double in 20 years, and therefore at risk of sprawling into natural environments and increasing GHG emissions. The Urban Planning Council of Abu Dhabi directs all development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and hired Michael Crane to provide advice on a range of sustainable development options. Worked included: economic analysis of 4 major master plans for developments ranging from 200,000 to 1.1 million people; affordable housing policy; feasibility analysis of large commercial real estate projects; and forecasting population and employment to the year 2030.
